My Home Office Babies

Cabin Creek Timberland Computer Desk

I’ve been spending much in my home office lately. I believe I have already told you about how I liked it better to work at home in my personal space than in the company office. Well, that’s because I feel more comfortable there.

My home office furniture are very natural and I keep it that way to maintain a less stressful atmosphere. Doing that helps me think and helps ignite my creative abilities.

In this blog article, I will tell you about a few essential pieces you must add to that. I should say that these are my personal favorites that have now become a bit of a fixation for me.

As listed below, you’d find my home office babies. These are the things I just cannot work without. I think you will find these things special too.

  • A rug or carpet under my working area. Try working in your bare feet and just have your feet feel the texture of the rug. You’ll see that it’ll make you feel more relaxed. The “barefoot” feeling will also increase your sense of self: your ability and your ego.

  • Log Desk to work on. I did tell you I chose wood for furniture and nothing beats it. I like it better than the thick plastic one I have at work. Wood is more warm and comfy. You should try out Cottage Hickory Executive Log Desk. It’s a small profiled desk that would work perfectly with any space. Also, its design is pretty is not overdone, so whether you are a wood furniture fanatic or not; you can definitely dig it.

  • A Trustee File Cabinet. Okay, this one is a must unless you want to loose some paper work. A file cabinet will also keep things together for you so that you won’t experience having going through all your stuff just to get one piece of important document. Have the Cottage Hickory 3 Drawer File Cabinet that would blend perfect with the log desk I suggested.

  • Book Shelf. I have tons of books so I felt the need to shelve them rather than just have them lying around here and there. I like to take care of my stuff whether it is a gadget or a book. I paid for all of them at a point in my life so I value them. Whether you like it or not, shelve your books! The Old Adirondack Long Pond Short-Medium Bookshelves is my favorite and I bet it will work perfectly for you.

  • A comfortable chair. I’ve saved the best for last here, but I should say everything else is worthless compared to having good seating. It all depends on the chair. My desk chair in my home office is a rocking chair. Laugh at it or what, but this works for me and I think this is my ground zero. If you can dig this, you’ll definitely dig the Aspen Mountain Snowload Rocking Chair. Try this log furniture and you’ll see what I mean by comfort, cozy and a conducive environment for working.

Missing that Country Feeling

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

Groovy Stuff Teak Wood Alpine Bench

The usual question that people always ask me is that “Why do you prefer country style when it comes to your interior and exterior designs?” My answer would be simple: “The style is unique, everlasting and the furniture lasts longer than any competitors existing.” And all of it is true, I have no intention of being dishonest, and I’m proud of barnwood and log furniture. No one can deny its simplicity, its class, its unique appeal and unbeatable quality. Reclaimed barnwood furniture is a survivor of time and the elements (like rain, heat, etc.) that marked its appearance.

Why should we purchase reclaimed barnwood or log furniture instead? The affordability is not a huge issue on this kind of furniture. In one of our sites, purchasing or shipping of furniture can be done by shipping the pieces separately to decrease the cost. There are even furniture places that offer barnwood furniture (best quality) with sale prices. All you need is the patience and motivation to spend wisely on the furniture that you’ll purchase.

Aside from the affordability and quality, all of us would eventually miss the ambience of the countryside; the warmth, the security, the familiarity, the essence of a real home and the comfort. Almost all of us, a few generations back, grew from this sort of environment – peaceful and secure. All of us would like to experience that ambiance every now and then, more especially, right at our own homes nowadays. It will ease up stress and bring more comfort into our house. Log and barnwood furniture are hand crafted for comfort and ease, you can never doubt that. So if ever someone will ask you why you have turned to barn wood or countryside living, simply tell them that “…there’s no place like home.”

Surprise Flowerbed Accessory

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Contoured Comfort Log Lounge Chair

I am always looking for new ideas to use in my flowerbeds. For me, gardening is a way to relax, enjoy the fruits of my labor, and provide a little character and “wow” factor to the exterior of our house. My flowerbeds are always a work in progress, and when I find a new idea for an addition or amendment, I get very excited about making it happen.

The other day, while taking my daily stroll through the neighborhood, I happened across a new idea. A family that had just moved into a house had placed their log beach chair in the midst of a bush that was growing in their flowerbed. It was brilliant! Because of the way it was placed, with shrubbery and flowers growing up through and around it, the chair could not be used for seating. However, it is a very effective garden accessory. The way it was placed, it looked like the chair had been there for a very long time.

If you are an avid gardener like I am, you might consider purchasing an outdoor log chair as a garden accessory. The Contoured Comfort Log Chair or Rustic Natural Cedar Low Back Arm Chair are both economical and practical choices for this purpose. If you wish to paint the chair to provide impact with color, consider the Contoured Comfort Leisure Chair. The slatted design would accept paint well, and is an accepting palette for any design you might wish to paint onto the chair.

Log furniture can be used in so many different ways. Don’t always think of it as something you purchase to put into your home. You can add it to your garden or anyplace where you want to make an impact or provide seating. It is the perfect surprising flowerbed accessory.

Longing for Logs

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Isn’t log furniture beautiful? I’m sure that you think so too, since you are reading this blog. It provides such a warm and homey touch in a home. The rich color of the wood complements nearly any color or pattern that is incorporated into a room’s décor. You can mix different styles of log furniture for a personalized style, or keep a consistent style and color throughout your rooms for a more seamless look.

Because of all of its attributes, log furniture can be a very spendy investment. Even if you are on a limited budget, you can still add pieces to your home. Begin by evaluating your current furniture. What pieces are in the worst shape, or are the best candidates to be replaced first? Next, decide on how you want your finished room or rooms to look. Do you want all the pieces to match, or are you going for a more mishmash, personalized appearance? If you desire a matching décor, you will need to shop for a line of furniture rather than individual pieces. Then, of course, you will need to decide on a budget for purchasing the furniture. Decide what you can spend now, at what time you can afford to spend more as well as how much, and develop these projections out for as many pieces as you desire to purchase.

If you follow these steps and understand that you will just have to patiently wait for your dream log furniture ensemble, you will be able to gradually add log pieces into your existing furniture configuration. It may be difficult to wait for your décor to come together, but your patience and planning will pay off in the end. After all, don’t all good things come to those who wait?

Cabin Creek Timberland Log Futon

Climate change is all over us. Storms, famine, and lack of water are huge issues for all the countries in the world. Love for Mother Nature is everywhere, so why not put it inside your house and show everyone your love for nature as well? Log furniture has varieties for the bedroom, dining room, living room, kitchen, garden, backyard and even for your pets. Isn’t it wonderful to know that you can have your entire house in a rustic and country charm? Besides, putting nature inside your very home will put yourself at ease, like you are in sync with nature itself, and that you appreciate it very well.

  • Outdoor Log Furniture – consisted of picnic tables, chairs, porch swings, arches, arbors, trellises, and many more. By putting log furniture outdoor is also like you are okay with the prospect of staying outdoors and take a break from staying inside too much. Outdoor furniture can change your entire garden or yard. Why? Porch swings and arches can make your garden like a magical page ripped off from fairy tales. Picnic tables can serve as your refuge for dinner-outside-events, like barbeque on a Saturday night.
  • Log Beds – you can never go wrong with log beds. They can serve as your main star in your bed room, and the comfort is satisfying. Log beds are designed for comfort and style, which depicts the contemporary look of country style.
  • Log Bedroom Furniture – aside from log beds, log chests, drawers and wardrobes are also very useful and stylish. They are not space eaters but space savers, drawers and wardrobes have a lot of space in them where you can put your things perfectly and save more space in your room. This furniture is made with the best quality you can find. If it’s log, then it’ll last years and years and you won’t get tired of it.
  • Log Living Room – there is no better way to welcome guests and relatives than leading them to a country style living room composed of log furniture. It’s unique, familiar and relaxing. Everyone needs a break from modernization, so everyone will appreciate the timeless appeal of country style furniture. You can never doubt the comfort brought by log living room furniture. They have the best amoires, tv racks, log coat trees and more!
  • Log Dining Room/Kitchen – whether it’s a pub table or a long dining one, once it is made of log, you get a quality promised by nature itself. Wouldn’t it be nice to eat comfortably and smell the scent of the woods right at you? Center islands and cabinets for the kitchen are also great space savers and stylish add on.
  • Log Pet Beds and Other – your pet can’t speak but his contented whine will show you that he liked his comfortable log bed. Pets can’t really understand the language of furniture and interior designing but comfort is what’s important to them. It’ll show up of course and you’ll be so happy that nature and your pets have come in sync as well. Log furniture are simply and gorgeously the best!

Rustic Accessories for your Homes

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Wildlife Granite Clocks

A house will not be complete with only beds, wardrobes or tables and closets, though this main furniture are very important, the small stylish details, like accessories shouldn’t be taken for granted. It is the details, not so major in size, but yet this will complete your entire interior designing. Like what people say, big things come in small packages – so take importance on your home accessories, especially when you prefer them rustic. If you want to achieve a great barnwood theme for your interior, it’s not all about the lavish log beds or amazing dining tables – you should also choose the right coat racks, towel bars or holders, portraits, clocks, room dividers, shelves and mantels. Why? These accessories are your finishing touches, without them the look of your home wouldn’t be complete, like there’s some major lacking in style and detail.

  • Coat Racks – log coat trees or log coats can add a significant attitude to your interior. They would be one of the things that guests would first lay their eyes on if they visit your house. Aside from the style, they are also convenient and useful – multi purpose. Putting log coat trees into your house is like putting “nature” itself inside your home.
  • Portraits and Clocks – stone clocks and log clocks are exotic additions into your country style. Just like etched portraits on wood, they are special and would stand out immediately. Their appeal is timeless and fascinating that they will definitely spice up any wall in your house.
  • Room Dividers – though this accessory isn’t always exposed as they are usually put into your bedroom, it is still very important for your self satisfaction. Wouldn’t it be nice to see something so beautiful every time you retreat into your own personal room? Dividers are also multi-purpose, serves with great use and great style all at the same time.
  • Towel Bars and Holders – your country bathroom wouldn’t be complete with these accessories. What’s a barn wood inspired house without log towel bars and holders in their bathroom? Handcrafted by man and made stronger by nature itself, these towel bars are certainly big things that are in small features. They are useful with adding style in your bathroom or room and by carrying your towels as well.

With these details, you will mold the character of your rustic, cabin style house. Each part of your interior design should be present; they won’t be complete with missing pieces. All should be picked with care to make sure each of the pieces would match each other perfectly. It is our creativeness that will make these details more superb, our keen observation if all is well placed and arranged. You can’t just ignore the fine use of log stools or log shelves – they are your design’s assets as well, not just the beds or tables. Rustic furniture is really a divine way to put some flavor into your houses; it is contemporary, stylish and very classy.

A Lawn with an Edge

Groovy Stuff Teak Wood Rocky Mountain Garden Bench, Model #TF-560

As I have mentioned before, I live in a housing community where all of the houses look very similar. There are only a few ways to differentiate one house from the next. For instance, all of us have flowerbeds around our houses with a few token bushes and plants that were installed by a landscape contractor. However, we are all encouraged to add our own flowers, plants, mulch, and accents to our flowerbeds to help in “beautifying” the neighborhood.

Some residents take this beautification much more seriously than others. A drive through the village will reveal that some flowerbeds have been planted in abundance while others have been left with the minimum plant coverage they began with. Many residents have replaced the initial pine straw mulch with different materials…wood chips, rock, and even sand in some beds. I find it to be very interesting to take note of these individual differences as I walk through the village and to decide for myself what I like and do not like. If I find techniques that really strike my fancy, I file them away as a possibility to use in future projects.

On a recent walk through the village, I found a technique that I really liked. The resident had used the trunks of small trees with bark still intact to make a rustic two-rail mini fence between their flowerbeds and lawn. I made a mental note that the style of the fence would complement teak furniture very well, as it employs the same look and construction. I could certainly see this edging technique paired with a teak garden bench amidst the flowers and shrubs or a teak loveseat situated on the front porch to beckon visitors to sit a spell. This miniature rustic two-rail edging technique would certainly set your house apart from the others in the village.

Summer’s Best Show

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

I have always loved thunderstorms. Not the kind that turns nasty and deadly with hail, high winds, and tornadoes. No, I like those that build from a distance with gently rolling thunder, flashes of lightning, and a nice steady rain. One of my favorite things to do in the summertime is to sit outside and watch a storm form. It usually begins as little dark clouds that come together and build higher and higher into the shape of an anvil. Once upon a time I was told that the direction the storm would head is the same direction that the point of the thunderhead’s “anvil” was pointing.

Summer thunderstorms commonly form at the end of an especially hot and humid day. I can remember many such days when I had worked and sweated and toiled, then looked forward to relaxing in my favorite log rocking chair on the porch. If I were lucky, I would get to watch a thunderstorm roll across the horizon. I especially loved it when the fresh smell of rain would come in a burst of cool air. That smell was so refreshing after a day of hot, hard work.

Others I know that love thunderstorms as I do like to sleep out on their porches during a rainstorm.  The pitter-patter sound of the rain on the porch roof can be so soothing and a helpful contribution to a good night’s sleep. A comfortable log bed or futon strategically placed on the porch can become a favorite sleeping spot during the summer months. What better place is there to catch a nice breeze and to enjoy summer’s best show?

Christmas Countdown

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Even though the heat of summer is upon us and some would be thankful for a bit of the cold weather that usually comes with December, few are thinking about the Christmas season. The month of August marks only four months left for holiday shopping. Smart shoppers begin buying gifts now for those on their lists.

Many of us probably have hard-to-buy-for people on our Christmas lists. You know how it is…if they ever want or need anything, they go ahead and buy it. This leaves you void of any ideas for what to put under their Christmas tree. Trying to think of a meaningful gift for them leaves you puzzled and frustrated. You strive to find a unique item that they wouldn’t normally buy for themselves but they will love once they take off the gift wrap. You should consider the gift of rustic log furniture.

For mom and dad, a log swing or tete-a-tete would be an unexpected addition for the front porch. A sibling might appreciate a log dartboard for his or her gameroom. Artwork or a nice painting might be a great gift for a friend. JHE’s Log Furniture Place has many different options for that hard-to-buy-for friend or family member. Visit www.logfurnitureplace.com today to start your Christmas shopping and avoid that last minute countdown!

Hickory Dickory Dock

Hickory Office Furniture

The look and feel of log furniture is unique and rustic, yet at the same time elegant and distinctive. A home that is decorated with log furniture usually emits a very homey, casual, and comfortable feeling. The atmosphere is typically warm and inviting. Visitors feel welcome and peaceful once they enter the home.

Even log furniture comes in different shapes and sizes. You are probably most familiar with pieces composed of full logs that have been de-barked and varnished to highlight the natural beauty of the wood. However, you should also consider some other types of log furniture. Hickory furniture still displays the rustic look but is unique in that many of its parts still have the bark intact. This lends a more unique and primitive look to the furniture.

Hickory furniture can be used in every room of your house. A traditional bed can grace your master bedroom while a hickory bunk bed may be a great choice for a child’s room. Your dining room can sport a large table and upholstered chairs while the living room invites to sit on a comfy sofa or lounge chair. Complete the look with hickory lamps and accessories. Your hickory furniture will work together to create a warm haven for your family and friends.
