Aspen Mountain Wall Mount Mirror

Who is the fairest of them all? If you are a fan of looking yourself in the mirror and admiring yourself as well as reclaimed barnwoood furniture, then you should definitely get one for your house. Mirrors are very essential in a household, especially those for the Eves. But mirrors aren’t only for vanity, or cosmetics, or long hours of making oneself extraordinarily beautiful. For me, mirrors are also great legends when it comes to interior designing. A home cannot be complete without a mirror. Household designing is composed of things that are IMPORTANT and are NOT SO IMPORTANT. Examples of NOT SO IMPORTANT can be PlayStation 3, or iPad (if you already have a laptop), and example of IMPORTANT are mirrors. At JHE’s Furniture Place, you’ll find great reclaimed barnwood furniture, and there are mirrors of course.

Everything about reclaimed barnwood is great! From quality to appearance, there can never be a shallow part that can ruin its legend. Reclaimed barnwood mirrors, just like the one in the picture, are great additions into any home. Why? There are a lot of reasons, and here are just some of them:

  • Reclaimed barn woods had already spent ten years or more in the wilderness before they were cut down and crafted into masterpieces. It is true that time can make things stronger, more invincible and solid in strength.
  • Reclaimed barn woods have great and natural appearances or patina. Their grain designs or knot patterns are similar to nothing, each reclaimed barn wood furniture are unique from one to another.
  • Reclaimed barnwood mirrors are contemporary looking that depicts the beauty of country style.

Reclaimed barnwood mirrors are stylish for me, on any wide stretch of wall it is hanged on. The quality is superb, the beauty is incomparable and history, years and time can tell how great they can be. You can look into a mirror and appreciate yourself and the mirror itself. That’s how furniture (or mirrors) should be, always multi-purpose for our convenience and everyone else’.

Log in the Bathroom

Lakeland Log Medicine Cabinet

People love bathrooms, that’s what people working for the real state tells their clients.  People, when they want to buy a house, are very interested in bathrooms.  Well, for me, I want my bathroom to look cabin-like.  What I want is that when I enter through the door, there’ll be the illusion that I am living in a cabin rather than in the city.  So, I made a checklist on what there should be in my cabin-inspired bathroom.

  • Log Medicine Cabinet – med cabinets are very important in bathrooms, it’s where you will find what you need whatever injury you might acquire inside the house.  So, my bathroom should have its log medicine cabinet, which will look great with my wall made of wood.  Medicine log cabinets might not be as spiffy as plastic or metal ones but there is always beauty in logs that none can imitate at all.
  • Log Vanity – a “Must” in my bathroom.  I need the mirror and all the drawers that I will put my stuffs into.  There are many sorts of log vanity; with or without sinks, with or without mirrors, made of north wood, lumberjack or even cedar.  Their hand-peeled texture and smoothness will definitely satisfy your thirst for log furniture, they are perfect in anyway you see them – and utterly useful too!
  • Log Clothes Hamper – hampers are very important, they are like ring hoops in basketball.  I tend to play with them when I change clothes, shooting them on the hamper like a professional basketball player (which I cannot ever achieve in my life, really).  It’s the only spot where the laundry should go, they make the bathroom organized and mess-free!
  • Wood Bath tub – okay, this might not be log but still, it’s a brother, as it is wood.  There was a certain wood bath tub I saw before, it was circular, and looked so wonderful!  It has more appeal than the ordinary bath tubs everyone has now, so if you want to be a difference, choose this one!

Brush Up Your Bathroom

Cottage Hickory Log Vanity, Model # 83300-33

Perhaps one of the rooms in our home that receives the least attention is the bathroom. Typically that room only serves one purpose, especially if it is only a half bath. The business that is conducted there is one that none of us really enjoys thinking about, let alone discussing. So, when we are constructing the bathroom we tend to just finish it out, throw a candle and a trash can in there, maybe a rug, and forget about it. However, we should think more of the bathroom as a place of refuge and strive to make it as comfortable as possible. After all, some people do say they do their best thinking when visiting that room so comfort may enhance the quality of their thoughts.

There are many areas of the bathroom that should be considered when decorating. In a half bath, there are two essential elements: the toilet and the vanity. Vanities come in all shapes and sizes. The one you choose will need to fit your space, needs, and décor. A small vanity such as the 30” Cedar Lake would be a great choice for a half bath. This design can be placed as a freestanding unit or sandwiched between walls on both sides. It also comes in two different finish options, and is varnished with a special formula that helps to protect against the large amounts of water and humidity that are present in a bathroom.

Along with the major elements in a bathroom, many accessories are needed for the room. Sinks and faucets are a necessity for every bathroom. Fixtures with a brushed finish are an excellent choice, as this is a finish that hides fingerprints and dust. Brushed brass is a common choice as an accessory for log furniture, as the warm color of brass complements the earthy tones of wood. Hammered finishes also contribute to the rustic feel of log furniture. This finish can be carried through to the toilet paper holder and towel bar.

Next time you visit your bathroom, take a look around and determine for yourself if it is as comfortable as you want to be. Perhaps yours can benefit from a little brush up on the décor. After all, you want it be as inspiring as a bathroom can possibly be!

An Entire Haystack of Needles

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Since moving to Georgia, I have become aware of a new trend in landscaping mulch. And it only makes sense, once I stop and think more closely about it. Georgia’s landscape is pretty much covered with pine trees, all different varieties of them. I often stare in amazement at the longleaf pines, which seem to be indigenous to this region. The pine needles on this particular variety can reach up to 18 inches in length!

Large stands of pine trees, planted by lumber farmers, can be found all across Georgia. The trees have to grow for several years before they can be harvested for lumber. Recently I was contemplating all the ways that a pine tree grower can make money on their crop throughout its growing season. First of all, pine trees shed needles, which can be gathered and baled, then transported and sold as inexpensive and natural mulch for flower beds and landscaping. Those same trees also drop pine cones all over the forest floor. Pine cones are a popular decoration, primarily at Christmastime, and commonly scented with cinnamon. At that same time of year, if a farmer chooses to groom his or her trees for the occasion, pines can be sold as Christmas trees. This venue can be as a cut-your-own or as one fell swoop of the trees bundled and shipped to stores nationwide. Pine boughs are also in high demand for the holidays, fashioned into wreaths, swags, garland, and other assorted decorations. And then, finally, when the trees are several years old, they can be cut and harvested as lumber or full logs.

Once I had considered all these avenues for revenue, tree farming began to make more sense to me. Pine trees have a lot to offer to us. They make beautiful holiday decorations as well as gorgeous and durable furniture for our homes and offices. Nature’s bounty can easily be transferred into our bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens; even into our bathrooms and game rooms. Best of all, pine trees are a natural resource that is easily renewable simply by planting a new crop of seedlings.

Introducing Rustic Log Bathroom Vanities from our Cedar Lake Collection

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

In the search for a rustic log vanity you will come across many styles and collections online.  There are numerous log vanities that look great, but what a lot of our customers do not realize before purchasing is that many of the most popular log vanities online have cabinets and counter tops which are made from furniture grade plywood with a thin veneer.  You can recognize these vanities by reading the descriptions where they will state that they come with a ‘Log Edge Top’ or ‘Slab Style Top’.  I don’t know about you but I don’t associate thin veneers with rustic furniture in my head.  I think of beefy solid wood furniture that can take a scratch and take a dent and look better for it afterwards.  We decided to redeem people’s visions of solid and durable rustic vanities by taking that beefy solid wood furniture mental image and turning it into Our Cedar Lake collection of rustic bathroom vanities.  These log bathroom vanities are available in two cabin style flavors just like our rustic bedroom dressers and log chests and are built to last a lifetime.

Our rustic log bathroom vanities are available in various sizes starting at 30” wide and moving up to 72” wide.  We are also more than happy to custom build to specific sizes if the need arises.  We offer various options on the vanities so that you can customize your log bathroom vanity to look exactly the way you want it.

For our original design for our log bathroom vanities we took inspiration from log cabin homes.  The tongue and groove commonly found on the interior walls, the unique log trim found on staircases, and the thick slab wooden countertops found on bar tops.  The end result is a cabin vanity with a thick and solid countertop with a natural front edge.  This sturdy natural countertop sits on top of the vanity base which has sides made from wooden tongue and groove boards.  We use hand sorted and picked naturally aged hand peeled cedar logs which feature various unique natural characteristics for the log corners.  The smooth gliding drawers are available with flat drawer fronts or you can kick up the rustic style of the vanity by choosing half log drawer fronts.

For our second design style on our log bathroom vanities we took inspiration from our Cedar Lake Logger collection.  As you may have read about on our blog introducing our Cedar Lake Collection found here:  Article introducing the Cedar Lake Collection, we went all out on the Logger collection.  The same holds true with our Cedar Lake Logger Bathroom Vanities.  We went all out for a true rustic look and feel.

The Logger bathroom vanities feature half log trim made from our naturally aged cedar logs.  This trim lines all visible sides of the rustic vanity cabinet.  The same half logs will make up the drawer fronts as well.  The authentic antler drawer pulls help glide the drawers open and shut effortlessly and silently on roller bearing glides.  The log vanity top will also be a solid thick slab of wood with a natural wavy front edge.  The sides of the countertop are hand draw knifed and a splash of color will be added with a blow torch.  The countertops are then finished with a liquid glass finish.  The liquid glass finish sets off the colors of the wood and scorch marks from the torch.

The Cedar Lake Log Bathroom Vanity collection is made to last a lifetime.  No shortcuts are taken in the construction for either rustic vanity style.  When you think of rustic furniture you think of solid furniture and our goal is to have you think of JHE’s Log Furniture Place Cedar Lake collection.  A collection of rustic log furniture that has so much unique character that you can look at it again and again and see something unique, previously unnoticed, each time.
