Gearing Up for Game Season

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Just the thing for cold weather evenings and rainy days, a rustic log furniture foosball table.Summertime and the outdoor entertaining season are in full swing across most parts of the country.  Weather conditions are quite suitable this time of year for enjoying the great outdoors, but sometimes the weather puts a damper on our backyard fun.  The Midwest has been plagued by a recent blast of extreme heat that has squelched many outside activities, but the end of the heat wave will again see backyard parties and folks enjoying games on their lawns.

All of this outdoor fun will ease to an end as the chill of fall arrives and the bitter cold of winter sets in.  Autumn is a time for bonfires and sweatshirts and, of course, the beginning of football season.  Outdoor barbeques and cornhole tournaments give way to congregations in the kitchen, beverages at the bar, and some serious games in the entertainment room.

While football is a high school must-attend on Friday nights and a Sunday TV staple during the ever-growing-colder days of fall and early winter, Saturday night is left feeling lonely and without a purpose.  Competition of a different sort can be entered into on those evenings.  Neighbor is pitted against neighbor and sibling rivalry rises to a new level.  Hours are spent around the game tables, cheering for your hero and jeering at their competitor.

An entertainment room is a wonderful way to spend cold and blustery winter evenings, but those who enjoy rustic furnishings sometimes face difficulty finding the perfect game tables to appropriately add to their décor.  Foosball table enthusiasts in this category need not search any longer.  The Rush Creek Log Foosball Table displays both the rustic appearance and character of log furniture while providing all the function of the traditional table soccer game.  With the addition of this piece to your entertainment room, you can enjoy hours of Saturday night competition this fall and winter game season.

North Woods Log Poker & Dining Table, Model # NWPKR

Who doesn’t love a fun little dinner party with friends and family? A gathering to enjoy food, drink, and camaraderie can really warm up a winter evening or cool down a hot summer night. The party doesn’t even have to be large; another couple or two is the perfect size for fitting around your dinner table and for plenty of laughs and conversation.

But after dinner is over, the table is cleared, and the dishes are stashed away in the dishwasher, what is next on the agenda? It’s likely too early at that point to call it a night. Wouldn’t it be perfect if you could transform that same dinner table into an entertainment center, the centerpiece for friends and family game night? With the North Woods Log Poker Table or the Texas Holdem Table, that is exactly what you can do. Dinner party and poker game, all at the same table! No one even has to leave their seat…except to clean up after dinner, that is.

The Log Poker & Dining Table is an octagonal shape that has stations for up to eight poker players. You may not want to crowd that many in for dinner, though. Folks don’t take too kindly to having to throw elbows and fight for table space when they’re cutting into their steak dinner. However, all bets are off later when a rousing game of poker takes your guests late into the night, perhaps even the wee hours of the morning.

If you wish to host slightly larger dinner parties, you should instead consider the North Woods Texas Holdem Table. Not only does its rectangular shape hold more guests comfortably with both knife and fork and hand of poker cards, but its cedar top lends an aromatic and unique character to your dinner and game party. Perhaps the scent of cedar will even work to soothe the savage beasts that can emerge after a hand or two of Texas Holdem.

No longer does your dinner party have to suffer from the after-dessert blues. With a two-sided log dinner and game table from JHE’s Log Furniture Place, it’s easy to plan an entire night of entertainment. Just tell your guests to enjoy dinner and then you’ll catch ‘em on the flip side!

Thrifty Holiday Shopper

Clearance & Specials at JHE's Log Furniture Place

I used to be a carefree spender. Perhaps it was the immaturity of youth or the lack of financial experience, but I figured that if I had money in my checkbook that I could spend it. When there wasn’t enough money in my account, I occasionally threw down some plastic. I didn’t think too much about a savings account, or putting money aside for a rainy day. I figured that if I wanted something (or, in my case, I “needed” it), then I should purchase it.

By now, my outlook has changed considerably. I am still learning about how to be a thrifty shopper, but am happy to report I am well on my way. The economic downturn that our country has been facing the past few years has certainly changed the spending habits of many Americans. The lifestyle changes my husband and I have experienced since we married have played a large part in my financial transformation.

Now I consider it a great thrill to find a discount item in the store, shop a great sale, see the total amount drop with every coupon used, find a treasure in a thrift store, or discover the ultimate bargain while “curb shopping”. My distaste for shopping and consternation with seeing the amount due rise with every item scanned has abated somewhat.

If you are shopping for heirloom quality rustic furniture but are concerned about its price tag, you need to check out JHE’s Log Furniture Store. Bargains abound on this website! They are easy to find when you click on the “Specials and Free Items” icon, located on the home page. Many items are available at clearance prices, including bedroom sets, outdoor furniture, living room pieces, even a log pool table. When you shop this clearance section and click on the checkout button, you will be smiling. Not only will you be expecting top quality log furniture to be delivered to your home for free, but your pocketbook didn’t take too hard a hit in the process. Visit www.logfurnitureplace.com today and experience the thrill of being a thrifty holiday shopper!

Christmas Countdown

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Even though the heat of summer is upon us and some would be thankful for a bit of the cold weather that usually comes with December, few are thinking about the Christmas season. The month of August marks only four months left for holiday shopping. Smart shoppers begin buying gifts now for those on their lists.

Many of us probably have hard-to-buy-for people on our Christmas lists. You know how it is…if they ever want or need anything, they go ahead and buy it. This leaves you void of any ideas for what to put under their Christmas tree. Trying to think of a meaningful gift for them leaves you puzzled and frustrated. You strive to find a unique item that they wouldn’t normally buy for themselves but they will love once they take off the gift wrap. You should consider the gift of rustic log furniture.

For mom and dad, a log swing or tete-a-tete would be an unexpected addition for the front porch. A sibling might appreciate a log dartboard for his or her gameroom. Artwork or a nice painting might be a great gift for a friend. JHE’s Log Furniture Place has many different options for that hard-to-buy-for friend or family member. Visit www.logfurnitureplace.com today to start your Christmas shopping and avoid that last minute countdown!

Relieving from the Honky Tonk Days

Groovy Stuff Teak Wood Cattle Barons Bar

Rustic designs are often referred to as ‘country-oriented’ designs for it relives the western times of cowboys and honky-tonks. During those times, bar games are generic entertainment highlights of lounges, the likes of darts and billiards.

In this modern era, the visual effect of rustic game bars which was loved way back is of high preference. Large ancestral houses in the United States, townhouses, duplexes and bungalows typically have a game room inspired by the olden western times. Rustic game bars in houses are often paired with rustic lamps.

Rustic game bar furnishing requires quite an allowable expense for it comprises of many elements in setting up the room to gain its desired look.

Here are some of the prime elements needed in a rustic game bar setting:

  • Rustic Outlined Pub Pool Table. Quality pool tables are just about anywhere, but quality rustic themed pool tables are hard to pick, considering the entire blend of all game bar furniture.
  • Rustic BarCounters. These bar counters are often matched with the elevation of high standing rustic bar stools. Old-color finishes and wooden-laminated coating lay on the counter desk.
  • Rustic Bar Wine Holders. These are specially designed wine cabinets flushed with rustic ornamentation, traditionally without door covers.
  • Rustic Bar Stool. Rustic bar stool should be edged adjacent to corner walls. These stools come in a variety of designs with either wood or brass, coated with rustic finishes. Common colors are dried-oak shades and mahogany.
  • Center and Side Tables. Tables with the element of Antler design, customary of mule and deer horns used as table stands.

Antique style rustic lighting is one of the important attributes in setting up a rustic themed game bar.

  • Rustic Pool Lamps. Pools should be paired with a central pool lamp, of sizes like square, round and triangulated. The installation of pool lamps should agree with the players’ height, for it sometimes is fitted too low hence covering the table sight of taller players.
  • Rustic Wall/Corner Lamps. Normally attached to the room’s four corner walls. If the game room hasn’t had a desk lamp yet, these Rustic Corner Lamps provide ample lighting over corner tables.
  • Rustic Table/Desk Lamps. These are usually placed over the top of Antler Horn tables for it complements a natural look. Rustic table lamps often have animal-skin-like covers made of ceramic.

Fourth of July Fireworks

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Ahh, the Fourth of July. This is my second favorite holiday of the year. I just love the patriotism and the essence of summer that Independence Day brings out all across the country. This holiday represents a little something different for everyone, but for me as an Army wife, it is the epitome of all that our military stands for every day of the year. We get to celebrate our freedom and all the sacrifices that have been made to keep our country that way.

Two things stand out for me when I think of the Fourth of July…parades and fireworks. I know those two events happen at various times of the year for various reasons, but nothing can signify America’s birthday celebration like a good parade full of patriotic floats and an impressive display of fireworks after dark. I have viewed fireworks from both up close and from a distance, and they never fail to be awe-inspiring…all the colors and patterns and different noises they can make. Sometimes we make the trek to the local fireworks with our lawn chairs and watch them shoot off right over our heads, and other times we are able to catch multiple displays from the comfort of our own front yard.

Some folks like to hold their own Fourth of July festivities. Typically these parties consist of a picnic lunch or dinner, some family games, and then a private fireworks display after dark. The best food can be found at these gatherings…potluck favorites from different family recipes. The goodies are spread over log picnic tables decorated with patriotic tablecloths, and guests sit in comfortable log chairs and seating to talk and gossip. A game of some sort might possibly be organized after the meals have been eating and before the excitement of fireworks begins. The culmination of the day’s festivities is the spectacular display that lights up the night sky. It is while I watch those fireworks and consider what this day is all about that I become very proud…proud to be a part of this great country and her birthday celebration. Happy Birthday, America! Enjoy the fireworks displays in your area, wherever you may be.

Cabin Sweet Cabin

Full Log Sofa

Aspen Mountain Sofa

What is it about a log cabin that is so inviting? I remember vividly the first time I stepped inside of one. It was full-log, the natural beauty of the pine trees showing just as much on the inside as the outside. Walking into the entry drew the breath right out of my lungs as I looked up…and up…and up! The great room was so beautiful, with the upstairs balcony gracing its upper edges. And the stones of the chimney that worked their way up the entire height of the room. I just wanted to sit in front of the fireplace with a hot cup of cocoa and waste away the day. Instantly I knew that someday, somewhere I wanted to own a log cabin of my own.

The character of a log home is probably its most marked feature. Instead of drywall and paint, there are logs and mortar. One may feel as though they have stepped back centuries to the forest homes of our forefathers. The sense of nature is all around you, and the warm fresh smell of the wood envelops your senses. It seems so warm and cozy inside.

Decorating a log home may seem like a bit of a chore. Some styles of artwork and sculptures that would perfectly complement a more traditional home might seem out of place in a cabin. The best approach is to choose furniture and artwork that blends in with the rest of the home. Invest in rustic log furniture, and your décor is sure to be a success. JHE’s Log Furniture Place is your one-stop shop for filling your dream cabin with all the furnishings and accessories that you need. Imagine a nice, plush sofa and chairs in your great room, surrounded by rustic lighting fixtures and beautiful artwork. This same theme can be carried across your entire home. And don’t forget that expansive front porch that greets all your visitors. You will need to provide seating and entertainment there as well. JHE’s Log Furniture Place has everything you need to make your cabin sweet cabin.

Country Style Interior Game Room

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Practically every game room is designed to look up-to-date, brandishing on futuristic and trendy. Geometric and straight lines with monochromatic colours are usually the theme of every modern room. Game rooms are always expected to look contemporary because game rooms have practically become synonymous to gadgets and technology. But there upon browsing JHE’s Log Furniture Place, I came upon the realisation that being ahead of our time is not the only way to look sleek and stylish.

Why not try opting for the rural look? It would sure look fresh in a sea of urban and metropolitan homes. A country-style game room could ever look cheap and old-fashioned with the right furnishings.

If you are looking for a table best for playing your favourite game, they got your back. And admit it, the table always makes a difference in enjoying the game you are playing. I came across a variation of tables specially designed for poker. No one should forget poker as it is practically every grown man’s choice of game. Just take a pick from Bridge, Texas Hold ‘Em and Blackjack and you are all set. Throw in rustic log bars and stools for the perfect boy’s night out.

Kids will never be left out because of the selection they have of teak wood chess sets, tables and chairs. Not to mention an assortment of foosball tables, adapted from the popular game of football. Hang a dart cabinet along the walls; it could serve as a gaming set and a decorative piece altogether. Of course all made are from log and wood. What is nice is that there are assortments of wood types so you would not have any problem in picking which the best addition for your room is.

They all have the complete assortment just the thing to kick off your country style interior game room-slash-family room. You do not have to be living in the countryside to experience the woods. You could be living in the city for all I know, but all you need is the right log furniture and have fun while you are at it.

The Deer Heads and the Chandelier

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Meyda 37"W Buckland 9 Light Chandelier

My husband can be considered a hunter, depending on your interpretation of that word. You see, every year in December some of his friends join together in a guy’s cult called “deer camp”. I’m sure that some of you out there know what I mean. I refer to it more as an excuse for guys to get together, drink beer, tell stories, play pool, and eat fried food. Even though we live miles away from eastern Iowa, my husband always hopes to make it back for that sacred two weeks every December.

Now, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that hunting doesn’t always seem to be at the top of these guys’ lists. Of course, they do go out most days but I’m not sure exactly how much hunting is done. You see, us ladies only receive a few tidbits of information about “deer camp”, and the rest is shrouded in mystery. I, for one, don’t want to know everything. Some things I am better off NOT knowing.

There is a daily contest at deer camp. The guy who shoots the smallest deer must wear a very becoming dress for the evening’s activities. Usually that ensemble is completed with hiking boots and a camouflage vest. It is a sight for sore eyes. On the other end of the spectrum, he who shoots the biggest deer gets the most bragging rights. Sometimes the guys from other deer camps stop by to check out the daily crop. The tales of getting the biggest deer get taller and taller as they are spread from camp to camp.

So, of course, there must be evidence of this most macho of events…the biggest deer. Apparently it is necessary to immortalize the poor buck as a statue on the wall. My husband has three such trophies in various forms. I have, thus far, been successful in banning them to a hidden room or the garage.

However, I can’t help but think about the day when my ban will have to be lifted. That day will probably come when we have a house with a basement where my husband can build and decorate his own “man cave”. I can already see it, deer heads on the wall and an antler chandelier, probably centered over a pool table. Over in the corner is a bar that can withstand the rigor of deer camp or any other guy’s gathering. When that day comes, I am sure that on the outside I will grimace at those deer heads finally gaining their own honored spot. However, on the inside I will probably smile at the very thought of having such a gesture to the outdoors located in my home. I might even sneak into the man cave for some “me time” every once in awhile.
